Miz Quickly’s Day 13: Too Many Radishes

Too Many Radishes

it’s when the snow
is rolling off the roof,

and the wooden fence
is wobbling in the wind,

and my blind and deaf dog
refused to step on the snow,

and I’m in my bathrobe, shivering
in a snow storm, carrying

a dog who won’t squat and pee
because it’s afraid to step

on anything cold, and the fence
wobbles and cracks then leans

as the snow rolls off the roof,
and I’m thinking this is all

just a bit too much for 6:30am,
and I’m reminded of that saying —

“it’s easy to plant too many radishes”

  1. Radishes happen… I too have an old (16 yrs) deaf dog with poor vision, but in our weekend snowfall, a dim memory of long ago fun came to him & he snuffled all the way around the yard & under bushes & came back with snow on his face & back & feet & enjoyed a towel rubdown & wanted to do it again after a little snooze. Maybe not his last Hurrah just yet. Thank you for your poetic words.

    1. My Molly’s activities revolve entirely around food, and not much else. If there’s no food in it for her, she wanders off for another nap. She’s a Springer, and nearly 15. Thanks for leaving me a comment; I’m delighted to meet another person with a blind and deaf dog.

  3. This is such a snapshot, I’m smiling ear -to- same ear (if possible). TMI – I hate stepping on anything cold as well! It’s a dog’s life! 😀

    1. Thank goodness this snow is melting, for her sake as well as mine!

  4. I like the way how this rolls along and builds up, Misky. Makes you want to stay in where it’s warm!

    1. I just did my daily 3 kilometre walk, and it’s 2C outside. I’m thinking hot chocolate. I’m also thinking I’m a bit nuts.

      1. Maybe just a tad, Misky… but there’s nothing better than getting back into the warmth after being out in the cold. I may start walking myself! 😀
