Jubilating for Miz Quickly & Christopher Smart’s “Jubilate Agno”

A Dream Without Title

I am a dream,
your storyteller,
I am a lily white symbol in confused art,
an artificial leaf on a branch.
I’ll make you breathless,
and fluttering like flags,
a flaggy imperfection in a vision.
I am dreams and doubt
that don’t exist,
a voice for its own sake
in a darkly dappled dream –
I am bodiless,
a faery’s downfall, and
I’ll fill your fallow mind
with fog and shapes that hide like
ears beneath hair, or a hairsbreadth
of morning light that’s lighter than
an angel’s hair in a jar.
I am as jarring
as a visionary’s holy secret,
secreted within me,
me and this unhappy shadow
of glass vegetables, and
tangled chimneys against white sky.
Monotony,
my name is Daydream.
