A Journal of Thoughts from Last Week

The I In It

Atrocity

I am sitting in the shade,
light-headed as helium,
the sun is stove-hot,

it thinks it's a sphinxian bastion

and a magpie is shouting
vulgarities at me -
in a praxis of complaint

all because

I've not refilled the birdbath.

    1. I love the way deep tones like these make my bones hum. Lovely.

    “and a magpie is shouting

    1. Magpies and crows, both interesting birds. Someone I know passed away recently, and since then a crow appears on the fence whenever I step outside. It gives me a proper telling off, and then flies away until next time. Mystery.

      1. If they’re associated with death there’s a reason. Might be only tenuous, but there’ll be one. I wonder what yours is trying to tell you?

  3. Never trust a magpie, especially a thirsty one!
