8 February: A Thursday Door

Tenter Ground in London was originally an open space used by Huguenot weavers. They used the space to dry the cloths they made on frames called tenters, which had hooks to pull cloth tightly so that it dried evenly and without creasing. This process also gave us the phrase on tenterhooks – very tense and pulled tightly.

Bushboy (Brian Dodd) shares photos of doors, but not just any doors. Spectacular doors from his journeys. Dan’s Thursday Doors opened the door on this. I love doors of all sorts. I’ve trawled through my holiday snaps and found a few to share.

  1. Thanks for the beautiful photo and the interesting history. I imagine something curious going on behind those doors today.

    1. I don’t usually add a back story, but this one is interesting history-wise. Thanks again for the opportunity to “open a few doors”.
